Free Leprechaun Amigurumi Pattern: Step-by-Step Crochet Guide

Materials 

2.2mm crochet hook 

Basic materials (stuffing, tapestry needle, scissors, stitch marker, glue) 

10mm safety eyes 

Brown, mustard, and green embroidery thread 

Fabric stiffener 

Hot glue stick (to support the neck) 

Pastel chalk and brush (for blush)

Black, white, brown, beige, moss green, light green, burnt orange, gold.

PATTERN – Amigurumi Leprechaun

Legs 

With black yarn: 

1: 8 sc in a magic ring 

2: 8 inc [16] 

3: (1 sc, 1 inc) x8 [24] 

4: BLO: 24 sc 

5: 4 sc, 8 dec, 4 sc [16] 

6: 16 sc 

Switch to white: 

7: BLO: 16 sc 

8: BLO: 16 sc 

9: 16 sc 

Switch to brown: 

10: BLO: 16 sc 

11: BLO: 16 sc 

12: 16 sc 

Finish the first leg. Make enough sc on the second leg to reach the inner side; we will start the body from here. 

Before that, embroider green stripes in the area of rounds 7 to 9, and embroider a buckle on the shoe with mustard thread. 

Body – Amigurumi Leprechaun

Chain 2, and join the legs: (remember to position the color changes to the back) 

12: 16 sc on the first leg, 2 sc in the chain spaces, 16 sc on the second leg, 2 sc in the chain spaces [36] 

13 to 16: 36 sc – 4 rounds 

Switch to black yarn: 

17: BLO: 36 sc 

18: BLO: 36 sc 

Switch to white yarn: 

19: BLO: 36 sc 

20: BLO: 36 sc 

21: (4 sc, 1 dec) x6 [30] 

22 to 25: 30 sc – 4 rounds 

Switch to beige: 

26: (1 sc, 1 dec) x10 [20] 

27: BLO: 20 sc 

28: BLO: (1 sc, 1 dec) x6, 2 sc [14] 

29: (5 sc, 1 dec) x2 [12] 

30 to 36: 12 sc – 7 rounds 

Insert a hot glue stick into the neck, and finish with an inverted magic ring. Embroider the belt buckle. 

Arms – Amigurumi Leprechaun

With beige yarn: 

1: 8 sc in a magic ring 

2 and 3: 8 sc – 2 rounds 

Switch to moss green: 

4: BLO: 8 sc 

5: BLO: 8 sc 

6 to 13: 8 sc – 8 rounds 

Finish with an inverted magic ring if you want the arms to be articulated, or finish with 4 sc joining the two sides if you want to sew them. 

Articulate/sew them on the 25th round of the body, aligned on the sides. 

Coat 

With moss green, chain 29. 

Skip the first chain: 

1: 28 sc 

2: 3 sc, chain 4, skip 4 sts, 12 sc, chain 4, skip 4 sts, 4 sc [28] 

3 to 6: 28 sc – 4 rounds 

7: 14 sc, 1 inc, 13 sc [29] 

8: 14 sc, 1 inc, 14 sc [30] 

9 to 11: 30 sc – 3 rounds 

Make sc around the entire piece, and finish off. 

Head – Amigurumi Leprechaun

With beige yarn: 

1: 6 sc in a magic ring 

2: 6 inc [12] 

Increase rounds until 

9: (7 sc, 1 inc) x6 [54] 

10 to 20: 54 sc – 11 rounds 

Decrease rounds until 

27: (1 sc, 1 dec) x6 [12] 

Place safety eyes between rounds 16 and 17. Finish off. 

With the same beige yarn, make the ears: 

1: 6 sc in a magic ring 

Pull the thread tight and leave a tail for sewing. 

Sew between rounds 18 and 20, 5 stitches apart from the eyes. 

Embroider the nose between rounds 18 and 19. Embroider the eyes as you prefer; use the reference image as a guide. 

Tie 

With green yarn, chain 16. 

Skip the first chain: 

1: sl st, 1 sc, 4 hdc, sl st, 1 dc, and chain 8 more. 

Finish off. Wrap around the amigurumi’s neck, tying at the back. 

Hair 

With burnt orange yarn: 

1: 6 sc in a magic ring 

2: 6 inc [12] 

Increase rounds until 

9: (7 sc, 1 inc) x6 [54] 

10 to 18: 54 sc – 9 rounds 

Finish with a sl st in the next stitch. 

Make the locks: 

1 to 27: chain 7. Start in the second chain from the hook: 5 hdc. Skip the next stitch and make a sl st in the following one. – 27 locks 

Sew or glue the hair to the head. Take two locks and glue them next to the ears, leaving the rest loose. 

Beard – Amigurumi Leprechaun

With burnt orange yarn, chain 21. 

Skip the first chain: 

1: 20 sc 

Make 1 picot + 2 sl st around the beard strip for finishing. 

Glue to the amigurumi’s face, 3 rounds below the nose. 

Top Hat – Amigurumi Leprechaun

With moss green yarn: 

1: 6 sc in a magic ring 

2: 6 inc [12] 

Increase rounds until 

9: (7 sc, 1 inc) x6 [54] 

10: 54 sc in the third loop 

11 to 16: 54 sc – 6 rounds 

Switch to black yarn: 

17 to 20: 54 sc – 3 rounds 

Switch to moss green: 

21: FLO: (1 sc, 1 inc) x27 [81] 

22 and 23: 81 sc – 2 rounds 

Finish off. Apply fabric stiffener to the inside of the top hat. 

Embroider a buckle on the black band area. 

Cauldron – Amigurumi Leprechaun

With black yarn: 

1: 6 sc in a magic ring 

2: 6 inc [12] 

Increase rounds until 

6: (4 sc, 1 inc) x6 [36] 

7 to 12: 36 sc – 6 rounds 

13: (4 sc, 1 dec) x6 [30] 

14: 30 sl st 

Finish with a scallop stitch (1 sc + 1 ch) all around. 

Put gold yarn inside the cauldron to simulate gold.
