How to Make a Soft Amigurumi Dog: Step-by-Step Instructions and Practical Tips

Hello friends! Today I will give you information about making a cute and soft amigurumi dog. The world of amigurumi offers a wonderful creative space for craft enthusiasts. In this fun and enjoyable project, you can create your own toy dog with step-by-step instructions. First, prepare the necessary materials and then start this wonderful adventure with me. Come on, meet a cute canine friend you can create at your disposal!

Materials Needed: 

Wolans Bunny Baby yarn in two colors. (Yarn consumption depends on the hook size and knitting density). 

Crochet hook 3.5 

Safety eyes 16mm in various colors 

Triangular safety nose 11*14 

Needle with a wide eye and thread for mouth and eyebrow detailing 

Black yarn (such as Yarn Art Jeans, you can use any equivalent) 

Stuffing (polyfill or holofiber) 

Scissors 

Markers 

Lighter (for singeing ends)

Abbreviations: 

MC: Magic circle 

sc: single crochet 

inc: increase 

ch: chain 

sl st: slip stitch 

dec: decrease

1st round: 5 sc in MC 

2nd round: 5 inc (10) 

3rd round: (1 sc, inc) * 5 (15)

6th-12th round: 9 sc without changes (7 rows) (9) 

Stuff the handle, fold in half, and crochet 4 sc together, secure the thread and cut it off. Knit the next handle the same way, but with a different color. 

Legs (2 pieces)

1st round: 6 sc in MC 

2nd round: 6 inc (12) 

3rd round: (1 sc, inc) * 6 (18) 

4th round: 18 sc 

5th round: (1 sc, dec) * 6 (12) 

6th round: (4 sc, dec) * 2 (10) 

7th round: 10 sc without changes (10) 

Stuff only the lower part of the leg, fold in half, and crochet 5 sc together, secure the thread and cut it off. Knit the next leg the same way, but with a different color. 

Tail 

Crochet with dark brown color (in my case) 

1st round: 7 sc in MC 

2nd-4th round: 7 sc without changes (3 rows) 

Change the color to light brown (in my case) 

5th-11th round: 7 sc without changes (7 rows) 

Do not stuff the tail, fold in half, and crochet 4 sc together. 

Eye Spot 

Crochet with additional color (dark brown in my case) 

1st round: 6 sc in MC 

2nd round: 6 inc (12) 

3rd round: 12 sc 

Secure and cut off the thread. 

Then insert the eye into the spot, but do not secure it, as we will attach the eye with the spot and the head together. 

Body+Head 

Crochet the body with dark brown color (in my case) 

1st round: 6 sc in MC 

2nd round: 6 inc (12) 

3rd round: (1 sc, 1 inc) * 6 (18) 

4th round: (1 sc, 1 inc) * 9 (27) 

5th round: 2 sc, (2 sc, 1 inc) * 8 + 1 sc (35) 

6th round: 2 sc, (3 sc, 1 inc) * 8 + 1 sc (43)

Secure and cut off the thread. 

Insert the eyes between the 25th and 26th rounds (do not forget about the eye spot, when we finish knitting the head, you can sew the spot to the head with regular threads). 

Ears (knit in different colors) 

1st round: 5 sc in MC 

2nd round: (1 sc, inc) * 2 + 1 sc (7) 

3rd round: (1 sc, inc) * 3 + 1 sc (10) 

4th round: 10 sc without changes (10) 

5th round: 1 sc, 3 dec in a row, 3 sc (7) 

6th-7th round: 7 sc (2 rows) 

Fold in half and crochet 3 sc together. (do not stuff the ear). Secure the thread and cut it off, leaving a thread end for sewing the ear. (slightly fold the ear angle and sew with a thread to make the ear lie slightly) see the photo above. 

Spot on the belly 

Crochet with light brown color (in my case) 

1st round: 6 sc in MC 

2nd round: 6 inc (12) 

3rd round: (1 sc, inc) (18) 

4th round: (2 sc, inc) (24) 

Leave the thread for sewing. 

Wings (in milk color in my case) 

1st round: Make 6 ch from the 2nd loop: 

2nd round: 5 sc, 1 ch, turn the knitting 

3rd round: 5 sc, 3 ch, turn the knitting 

4th round: Crochet 7 sc from the 2nd loop, 1 ch, turn the knitting 

5th round: 7 sc, 3 ch, turn the knitting 

6th round: Crochet 9 sc from the 2nd loop, 1 ch, turn the knitting 

7th round: 9 sc, 3 ch, turn the knitting 

8th round: Crochet 11 sc from the 2nd loop, then go down the side and crochet 5 loops not finished, then crochet all together. Secure and cut off the thread, leaving a thread end for sewing. 

Assembly 

Embroider claws on the paws. 

Make eye indentations. 

Sew on ears and wings. 

Embroider eyebrows, mouth, and fangs. 

Embroider the belly with black thread. 

Collar: make a chain of ch (about 18 ch wide) you can see for yourself how many air loops you need. Then connect (sl st) and your collar is ready.
