🔤 Abbreviations (US terms):

ch – chain

BLO – back loop only

MR – magic ring

FLO – front loop only

inc – increase (2 sc in 1 st)

hdc – half double crochet

sc – single crochet

sl st – slip stitch

dc – double crochet

dec – decrease (sc2tog)

(NUMBER) – total number of stitches in the round or identical rows

(…) x NUMBER – repeat what’s inside the brackets as many times as stated

🎨 Color Change

Let’s go over how to change yarn colors.

For example, when switching from contrast color to main color:

Insert your hook into the last stitch of the round and yarn over with the contrast color – now you have 2 loops of the contrast color on the hook.

Yarn over with the main color and pull through both loops. Gently tug both yarns to neaten the stitch.

Now you’re ready to continue with the main color.

Overalls (make 1) – Amigurumi Giraffe

Work in rounds.

Each round ends with a slip stitch (sl st) into the first stitch of the same round to form a closed circle.

Each new round begins with chain stitches, and the first stitch is worked into the same stitch as the sl st from the previous round.

Start with the pant legs:

1: Chain 28 and join into a ring with a sl st (ensure the chain is not twisted).

2: ch 1, 28 sc, sl st

3–11: ch 2, 28 dc, sl st (9 rounds)

Fasten off after the first leg. Do not fasten off the second leg—continue crocheting.

12: Join the second leg to the first with a sl st, then ch 2, work 28 dc around the first leg and 28 dc around the second leg (56)

If a large gap forms between the legs, work a special decrease:

Yarn over, pull up a loop from the last stitch on one leg and another from the first stitch on the second leg (4 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through 3 loops, then yarn over and pull through the remaining 2 loops.

13–15: ch 2, 56 dc, sl st (3 rounds)

16: ch 2, 13 dc, dc2tog, 26 dc, dc2tog, 13 dc, sl st (54)

17: ch 2, 12 dc, dc2tog, 26 dc, dc2tog, 12 dc, sl st (52)

18: ch 2, 12 dc, dc2tog, 24 dc, dc2tog, 12 dc, sl st (50)

Fasten off and cut the yarn.

Front Panel of Overalls – worked in rows

The back side is where you started and ended rounds.

1: Fold the pants in half and find the side stitches (these should align with the decreases made in Round 18). Skip 1 stitch to either side, join the yarn, ch 1, and work 22 sc.

2: ch 1, dec, 18 sc, dec (20)

3: ch 1, dec, 16 sc, dec (18)

4: ch 1, dec, 14 sc, dec (16)

5: ch 1, dec, 12 sc, dec (14)

6: ch 1, dec, 10 sc, dec (12)

7: ch 1, dec, 8 sc, dec (10)

8: ch 1, dec, 6 sc, dec (8)

9: ch 1, 8 sc, fasten off and cut the yarn.

Back Panel of Overalls – worked in rows

1: Skip 2 stitches to the left and right of the side stitches on the pants, join the yarn, ch 1, and work 20 sc.

2: ch 1, dec, 16 sc, dec (18)

3: ch 1, dec, 14 sc, dec (16)

4: ch 1, dec, 12 sc, dec (14)

5: ch 1, dec, 10 sc, dec (12)

6: ch 1, dec, 8 sc, dec (10)

7: ch 1, dec, 6 sc, dec (8)

8: ch 1, dec, 4 sc, dec (6)

9: ch 23, starting from the 11th chain from hook, work 13 sc along the chain, 6 sc along the overalls, then chain 23 again and starting from the 11th ch from hook, work 13 sc.

In Round 9, we crocheted the straps for the overalls.

Try the overalls on the toy at this point. If the straps are too short, lengthen the chains—but keep in mind the front panel will get 1 extra row of sc edging.

Edging the top of the overalls:

9 sc along the side edge of the back panel

4 sc across the leftover stitches of the pants

9 sc along the side edge of the front panel

8 sc along the top edge of the front panel

9 sc down the opposite side of the front panel

4 sc across the other leg’s leftover stitches

9 sc up the other side of the back panel, fasten off and cut the yarn

Note: The number of sc along the sides may vary slightly.

Overall Pockets (make 2) – Amigurumi Giraffe

Work in rows.

1: Chain 13, starting from the second chain from hook, work 12 sc

2–8: ch 1, 12 sc (7 rows)
